Objective:
- Summer intern position in the materials science engineering field
Education:
- B.S. Materials Science Engineering, May 2000
Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University
Blacksburg, Virginia 24061
Experience:
- Intern, June 1996-August 1996
- Naval Surface Warfare Center, White Oak, Maryland
- Worked in the Positive Ion-Accelerator Facility under Dr. Jack Price
- the Navy's rocket nozzles experience high temperatures and the materials presently used corrode easily due to oxidation
- Our task: to produce a hafnium nitride (HfN) coating using ion-implantation, analysis, and modification
- What I did: used Nuclear Reaction Analysis (NRA), Rutherford Backscattering Spectroscopy (RBS) and Particle Induced X-Ray Emission (PIXE) to determine that halfnium and nitrogen can be profiled and are useful in characterizing the HfN coating; also, a halfnium beam can be produced
- Intern, June 1995-August 1995
- Goddard Space Flight Center, Greenbelt, Maryland
- Worked in the Space Geodesy and Altimetry Projects Office, Laboratory for Terrestrial Physics under Mrs. Carey Noll
- Learned Hyper-Text Markup Language (HTML) in order to create World Wide Web pages for the many Crustal Dynamics Data Information System sites around the world
