Visualization of Complex Reinforcing Bar Structure in the CAVE
 

A concrete cast-in-place segmental bridge on the Smart Road includes structural complexity at the joint section of the bridge slab and the piers. The use of reinforcing steel (rebar) is so massive that it is hardly achieved to visualize this section with only the 2D drawings. Even though the CAD file (MicroStation) is available it is still limited in the sense that it does not provide 3D feeling of the objects which is vital element for establishing the right procedure of the rebar placement operation.
 

The main objectives of the project will be:

• Put the rebar structure of the bridge into the CAVE for resolving constructability issues
• Establish steps for converting MicroStation files into CAVE format
• Develop a web documentation for the converting process and the issues involved

CAVE, MicroStation, 3D-Studio and other tools if necessary
