Discussion of Results

1. Error: The prediction of strain is low for this gage

Comparison of gage 8 - ONE MODE analysis
Comparison of gage 8 - MULTI-MODE analysis

Although the prediction of strain is low for this specific strain gage, it doesn't seem as though anything is gained by using more modes.

2. Strain on the end cap and faceplate.

One thing that is gained from this analysis is an idea of where the locations of the high strains. This simulation was put together with only the strains measured from the cylinder wall. However, it is pretty obvious that there are high strains at the end cap and flange connections that are on the same order as the high hoop strains on the cylinder wall.

3. Mode Shape Orthogonality

One thing that is interesting to see from the results is the orthogonality of first mode shape. The first mode appears at two frequencies, separated only by at most 1 hertz, in such a manner that they are orthogonal. The shape is a half-sine two lobe mode. When they are added together in the frequency domain, they show up as two high (or low) strain lobes, next to one another.
